It goes to tie-breakers to determine the winners

Twin Cities handball League Finals
March 23, 2019
LifeTime Fitness - 98Th Street

SALTY Defeats LA Fitness - Skyway 28-5.  But it was a lot closer than the final points would suggest.  In the #3 singles Joe Lacey-Gotz got the Skyway team (Greg Taylor captain) on the board first with a 21-12, 21-8 win over Erling Holdahl in the #2 Singles earning the first 5 points.  Shortly after, Dave Schiller dominated Mat Langhorst with spectacular gets and hard hitting getting Mat on his heals.  The 21-10, 21-12 win in the #1 Singles netted SALTy 9 points and apparently put them in the drivers seat.  It looked good for SALTy winning the first game in both of the doubles matches.  But Skyway pulled out both second games just barely defeating SALTy to bring on a couple of tie-breakers.  #2 Doubles finished first with a win by Steve Johnson and Brian Mahaffy over Sergio Gonzalez and John Laliberte 21-9, 18-21, 11-7, earning another 7 points for SALTy.  That meant the #1 Doubles was for the championship.  Tim Labey turned it on in the tie-breaker with 3 aces and some great shots.  He and captain Joe Hagen controlled the last game winning 11-1 over Brian Burke and Bill Hickey for another 12 points and the TCHL championship.

The University of Minnesota team, captained by Mike Gustafson defeated the River Rats, captained by Mike Kloos 17-16 for third place.

The Gophers (captain Phil Kleineschay) defeated LifeTime Fitness 98th St. (captain John Miller) for 5th place 21-12

Everyone gathered at the Green Mill for beer, wings, pizza and stories.

Another great year for the Twin City Handball League!
